(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation designating the month of May 2024 as Mental Health Awareness Month.

Suzanne Watson, Director and CEO of Community Services, and Maria Sieck, Pottawattamie County Public Health Administrator, brought the proclamation before the board Tuesday morning.

Mental Health is defined as a state of well being in which every individual realizes their own potential can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to contribute to their community.

The proclamation, in part, states: ‘The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors, does hereby declare May 2024 as Mental Health Awareness Month and encourages all citizens, community agencies, organizations, businesses, and schools within Pottawattamie County to increase awareness and understanding of mental health, the steps that our citizens can take to protect their mental health, and the need for appropriate, accessible services and support for all people with mental health conditions and their family members.’
