To start, I am excited to share that my fellow Commissioners and I recently announced that, in collaboration with EZ Ride, we have created a free wellness transportation program for Monmouth County residents. This program will provide residents over the age of 18 with up to two round trips per week to their medical, wellness and nutrition appointments, regardless of the applicant’s income. This includes, doctor, dentist, therapist, pharmacy and lab work, grocery store, food pantry, farmer's market, and more. We are thrilled to be able to introduce this service to help our residents travel to these important appointments at no expense. Additionally, I am pleased to provide updates on several Monmouth County construction projects. Recently, we have successfully activated the traffic signals at two critical intersection safety improvement projects.
The first project involves the Intersection Improvements at County Route 23 (Jackson Mills Road) and Bergerville Road/Stone Hill Road in the Township of Freehold.
To commemorate the completion of this intersection improvement, my fellow Commissioners and I hosted a traffic signal activation ceremony. This project aimed to upgrade the previously stop-controlled intersection to a new traffic signal-controlled intersection, enhancing pedestrian and vehicular safety in the area. We extend our gratitude to the Earle Asphalt Company for their diligent efforts in executing these essential road enhancements.
In addition, the improvements included the construction of a semi-actuated traffic signal, flashing “Red Signal Ahead” signs, superelevation along the horizontal curve and pedestrian accommodations including Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps and crosswalks.
Furthermore, I am excited to share details about the second safety improvement project: Intersection Improvements at County Route 57 (Ocean Boulevard) between West End Court and West End Avenue in the City of Long Branch.
I am pleased to announce that the new traffic signal installed as part of this project, at the intersection of County Route 57 (Ocean Boulevard) and Brighton Avenue, has recently been activated for full stop and go operation.
Moreover, I am thrilled to report that this project has achieved substantial completion ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, when pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic will surge significantly. This critical safety enhancement project greatly improves safety along this busy beachfront area.
In addition to the installation of a new three-phase traffic signal, this project's enhancements included the construction of a bicycle-compatible lane, ADA-compliant ramps, and the replacement of existing curb and sidewalk infrastructure.
These advancements not only contribute to the safety and accessibility of our roadways but also enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors alike as they enjoy the attractions along the Monmouth County shore.
We remain dedicated to maintaining the County's infrastructure, and these improvements serve as a testament to that ongoing commitment.
Switching gears, my fellow Commissioners and I are excited to announce that the 2024 Monmouth County Travel Guide is now available in both digital and print formats.
