MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A death deputies called “suspicious” is no longer considered as such following findings from an autopsy, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Deputies said they were investigating a “suspicious death” after a person was found shot along the highway Friday afternoon.

Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle along the shoulder of Highway 38 South, deputies said. When they arrived, they found a dead person lying beside the vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Following an autopsy and the findings from Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown, the death is no longer considered suspicious and the investigation is closed, deputies said.

The person’s identity is not being released out of respect for the family, the sheriff’s office said.
