    Law Enforcement Torch Runs scheduled across ND

    NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is set for Monday, May 13 – Friday, May 17, to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics in North Dakota (SOND) and the State Summer Olympics.

    Each year more than 400 Officers in North Dakota promote the concept of partnership and prosperity as the “Guardians of the Flame.”

    North Dakota officers carry the flame for Special Olympics

    The Law Enforcement Torch Run started in North Dakota in 1985 and the “Flame of Hope” is carried in honor of the 1,300 athletes that participate in any of the 14 sports offered by SOND annually.

    The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is set for various communities across North Dakota, as listed below. Members of the community are invited to participate in Bismarck, Minot, Jamestown/Valley City, and Williston.

    Bismarck

    • 9:00 a.m., Friday, May 17
    • The Bismarck Torch Run will start at the front of the State Capitol Building and run down North 7th Street, through Kirkwood Mall parking lot, and end in front of Scheels.

    Members of the community are invited to participate.

    Fargo/West Fargo

    Grand Forks

    6:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 14

    The Grand Forks Torch Run will begin at Scheels and travel to 34th St., then take the following route:

    • 34th Street to 24th Avenue
    • 24th Avenue to 42nd Street
    • North on 42nd Street to Demers Avenue
    • East on Demers Avenue to Columbia Road
    • North on Columbia Road to Gateway Drive
    • East on Gateway Drive. to the Greenway
    • Greenway to downtown and ending at the Police Department/Sheriff’s Office building

    Participants will be bussed back to Scheels.

    Jamestown to Valley City

    8:00 a.m., Friday, May 17

    The Jamestown Torch Run will meet at the JRCC Administrations Building and travel to the Bloom Exit on I-94 (mile marker 262) and continue east towards Valley City finishing at Valley Meats (1269 W Main St).

    Members of the community are invited to participate.

    Minot

    10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 15th

    The Minot Torch Run will start at Scheels run through the city to Buffalo Wild Wings.

    Members of the community are invited to participate.

    Williston

    10:00 a.m., Friday, May 17

    The run will start at the Law Enforcement Center (223 East Broadway) parking lot. The run will then head North on University Avenue to the ARC (822 18th St E) and loop back to the Law Enforcement Center.
