HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Henrico County Police Division will host a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday.

The clinic will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Henrico County Western Government Complex.

This clinic comes after two cases of rabies were reported and confirmed in the county this year — the first in a raccoon who potentially exposed two dogs and the second in a “companion outdoor cat” who scratched its owner.

According to police, pet owners will need to register and pay at the cashier’s office in the Administration Building before they see a veterinarian on the first floor of the adjacent parking deck.

All vaccines cost $20 and must be paid with cash. A rabies tag and certificate of inoculation will be provided.

Pets from all localities are welcome to participate. Cats are required to be in their carriers.

Virginia law requires that dogs and cats are at least four months old when getting vaccinated.

Valid licenses are required for the life of animals if the owner lives in Henrico. Dog licenses will be available for $10. Officers will be onsite to help owners better understand both licensing and vaccination requirements.

For more information, call the Animal Protection Unit at 804-727-8801.
