May 13, 2024 –  Deputies with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a fugitive last week and recovered a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop in the county.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office posted on Saturday, May 11th that while monitoring traffic just before 2 a.m., a deputy spotted a black sedan violating two motor vehicle laws. Promptly, he initiated a traffic stop.

While engaging with the driver, identified as Chandyn McGary, and the passenger, identified as Veretez McGill, the deputy explained the reason for the stop and proceeded to issue a warning. However, further investigation revealed that the temporary tag on the vehicle was fake and the car itself was reported stolen from Nashville.

Additionally, a handgun was discovered on the passenger side seat, concealed under Mr. McGill’s legs. Further search of the vehicle uncovered another counterfeit temporary tag, adding to the implication of the individuals.

It was later revealed that Mr. McGill had an active TDOC warrant for violating parole on charges including aggravated assault and facilitating second-degree murder.

Consequently, both Ms. McGary and Mr. McGill were charged with Theft of Property for the stolen vehicle and Altering or Forging the Titles or Plates for the fake temporary tags displayed on the vehicle.

Mr. McGill will also face charges of Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm by a Known Felon.
