U.S. 8th Congressional District Republicans endorse Stauber

Republicans from across Minnesota’s 8th U.S. Congressional District gathered in Duluth for an annual convention on April 26. Current 8th District U.S. Congressman Pete Stauber (R-MN) was endorsed. “He easily captured well over 60% of the votes required on the first ballot,” said secretary of the Aitkin County Republican Party, Dale Lueck. Stauber is currently serving in his third term as a U.S. Congressman and only the second Republican to represent the 8th District since 1947.

The Aitkin County Republican Party was represented at the convention. Alicia Leiviska, from Glen Township and the current 8th Congressional District Republican Party chair, gaveled the convention into order on Saturday morning. Aitkin County Republican Party Chair Jennifer Cummings led Aitkin County’s delegation of 10 delegates and supporting alternates who participated in the day-long convention.

Upon completion of the endorsing process, the delegates proceeded to elect a slate of 8th District Republicans who will participate in the Republican Party National Convention to be held Aug. 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The 8th US Congressional District Republican Party is allocated six slots, three delegates and three alternates who will be part of Minnesota’s statewide delegation that will attend the Republican National Convention.

Aitkin County will be represented in Milwaukee, filling two of the six 8th district slots available. Jennifer Cummings and Sue Finney were both elected and will attend the convention as alternates.

Minnesota’s 8th U.S. congressional district delegation and the additional delegates and alternates to be elected at the Minnesota Republican Party Annual Convention later this month will carry Minnesota’s Republican Party presidential endorsement votes to the National Republican Convention. Delegates and alternates are responsible to cover all the costs associated with attending the three-day national convention, including registration fees, transportation, food and lodging.
