FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — A local tree trimmer stepped up and helped save a cat from a tall tree at a York County home.

Back on Monday, May 6, the wife of a Midstate homeowner, Doug Musselman, noticed that there was a black cat stuck at the top of a tall, approximately 50-foot-tall tree on their property.

After waiting the day to see if the cat could make the trip down the tree by itself, the homeowners decided to try and get the cat a helping hand.

They called their local fire department, but they were unable to assist due to being unable to bring in their ladder truck; additionally, they did not have a ladder that was tall enough to reach that height.

Finally, on Wednesday, May 8, the homeowners called a local tree trimming business, which helped the couple to make contact with Matt Smith of Goods Tree and Lawn Care .

What seemed like an impossible feat, Smith made look easy. In a matter of minutes, he was able to scale to the top of the tree and bring the cat back down to safety after three days of hanging by a limb.

After the mission was completed, Smith insisted that he did not need to be paid for the rescue, but the homeowners insisted on tipping this local hero $100.

After the cat was removed from the rescue basket, the homeowners say that the cat ran away – hopefully back to its owners and not up another tree.
