AC/DC’s Brian Johnson Offered Help To Huey Lewis

Though he’s retired from the touring stage due to hearing issues, Huey Lewis is as busy as ever. “The Heart of Rock and Roll” frontman is out promoting the new Broadway jukebox musical of the same name which features a huge catalog of Huey Lewis and the News tunes. Lewis also recently had a feature appearance in the Netflix documentary, “The Greatest Night in Pop.”

Lewis has had countless hits over the years and had been touring regularly up until 2018 when he announced he had been diagnosed with Ménière’s disease and was no longer able to hear well enough to sing. Another iconic frontman who has had hearing trouble is AC/DC singer Brian Johnson.

Johnson had to bow out of the band’s “Rock or Bust” tour back in 2016. He was replaced by Guns ’N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose for the remainder of the tour, but has since re-joined the group for their latest “Power Up” album, an appearance at last year’s Power Trip festival in California, and is set to front the band on their upcoming tour that starts in late May.

“Brian Johnson’s had trouble with his hearing as well, and he touched base with me,” Lewis told American Songwriter. Ménière’s disease is a chronic disorder that affects balance and hearing. Sadly, though Johnson found a solution with audiologist Stephen Ambrose to get back on stage, Lewis isn’t as lucky.

“He’s been helped by a guy called Stephen Ambrose, who does these new inner ear things,” Lewis continued. “Brian swears by him, and he was so sweet. He reached out to me, introduced me to Steve. Unfortunately, I’m too far gone for Steve to help. But Brian Johnson has been a really good friend.”
