(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors held a discussion Tuesday on the use of county funds for economic development.

Board Chair Steve Baier said they have money from the sale of the Valley Business Park which is specifically earmarked for economic development. He said that account has accumulated about $67,000 in interest. The board needs to figure out the parameters for using those funds.

For instance, Scott and Cheryl Bailey with the Anita Locker asked the board for some matching funds for an IEDA grant.

Bailey said the IEDA part would be $41,500 with the matching funds being $41,500.

The Supervisors’ main concern is possibly opening a can of worms to the private sector.

    No action was taken Tuesday.

In other news, the Supervisors set May 31st at 9:00 a.m. as the date for a public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Amendment. The Supervisors approved the appointments of Justin Miller and David Riedemann to Eminent Domain Compensation Commission. And, the Supervisors approved the resignations of Max Potter as Cass Township Clerk and Duane Ortgies as Victoria Township Trustee.
