    Top performers: Burns baseball's Jackson Toney earns perfection in second round playoff win

    Our weekly top performers list and athlete of the week nominees are compiled courtesy of information provided to The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors or team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps or mentioning @JoeLHughesII in game results and highlights posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

    Friday, May 10

    Baseball

    Camden Mackall, Burns: Was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored in an 11-0 win over McMichael.

    Marshall McGowan, Burns: Hit a home run with two RBIs and two runs scored.

    Jackson Toney, Burns: Pitched a five-inning perfect game, striking out six McMichael batters. He was also 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

    Nick Williams, Burns: Was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

    Brock Bumgardner, Cherryville: Was 2-for-2 with three runs scored in a 10-0 win over South Stokes.

    Talon Dalton, Cherryville: Was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

    Eli Newsome, Cherryville: Was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

    Brayden Reynolds, Cherryville: Pitched five innings, allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts.

    Wyatt McSwain, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in an 4-3 loss to Lake Norman Charter.

    Jackson Queen, Crest: Pitched 5 ⅓ innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts.

    Parker Ramsey, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

    Evan Myers, Lincoln Charter: Hit a solo home run, in addition to pitching six innings and allowing three runs on four hits with 12 strikeouts in a 7-3 loss to Bandys.

    Brody Thompson, Lincoln Charter: Hit a solo home run.

    Elliott Dellinger, North Lincoln: Was 2-for-3 in an 8-2 loss to West Henderson.

    Brady Rinkus, North Lincoln: Had two hits.

    Logan Sammons, North Lincoln: Was 2-for-3 with a home run.

    Softball

    Laila Davis, Cherryville: Had a double and two RBIs in a 3-2 win over Eastern Randolph.

    Maddie Bowen, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-3 win over West Henderson.

    Kaleigh Gullatte, Crest: Was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

    Aidan Ledbetter, Crest: Pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on three hits with 15 strikeouts.

    Sage McMurry, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

    Kendall Jones, Gaston Christian: Was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in a 10-0 win over Thales Academy Rolesville.

    Olivia Kennedy, Gaston Christian: Had a double, RBI and two runs scored.

    Katie Muchesko, Gaston Christian: Had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored. She also pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing no runs on two hits with eight strikeouts.

    Clara Nanney, Gaston Christian: Had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored.

    Maddie Huffman, Kings Mountain: Pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits with 17 strikeouts in a 5-2 win over Pisgah.

    Kayla McSwain, Kings Mountain: Was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.

    Cheyenne Reynolds, Kings Mountain: Was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

    Kaydance Whitaker, Kings Mountain: Was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

    Kasey Haigler, Mountain Island Charter: Was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in an 11-0 win over Polk County.

    Reagan Hart, Mountain Island Charter: Was 2-for-2 with two doubles, an RBI and four runs scored.

    Izzy Leppert, Mountain Island Charter: Had a double, RBI and a run scored, in addition to pitching six innings and allowing no runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

    Harleigh Reece, Mountain Island Charter: Was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

    Tuesday, May 7

    Baseball

    Hagan Hoyle, Burns: Was 2-for-2 with an RBI in a 6-1 win over East Burke.

    Marshall McGowan, Burns: Had a hit and scored a run.

    Colby Putnam, Burns: Had a hit and scored a run, in addition to pitching a complete game in which he allowed a run on five hits with 13 strikeouts.

    Davin Digh, Cherryville: Was 2-for-2 with three RBIs in a 15-0 win over Mitchell.

    Kenan Fowler, Cherryville: Was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored..

    Brayden Reynolds, Cherryville: Was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

    Eli Newsome, Cherryville: Allowed no runs on one hit with five strikeouts.

    Brock Melton, Crest: Was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in a 12-7 win over South Point.

    Landry Ohmstead, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

    Parker Ramsey, Crest: Pitched 5 ⅓ innings, allowing four runs on two hits with six strikeouts.

    Barrett Erwin, East Lincoln: Pitched six innings, allowing three runs on two hits with seven strikeouts in a 3-1 loss to Oak Grove. He also had a base hit in a losing effort.

    Will Herzog, Gaston Day: Was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored in a 14-11 win over Caldwell Academy.

    Ben Nigbor, Gaston Day: Was 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.

    Brody Smith, Gaston Day: Was 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored,

    Grayson Wingate, Gaston Day: Was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

    Ronald Costner, Highland Tech: Had a double, an RBI and scored a run in a 7-0 win over East Wilkes.

    Grayson Lunsford, Highland Tech: Pitched a complete game, allowing no runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts.

    Coleman Schafer, Highland Tech: Was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

    Adam Rodgers, Lincoln Charter: Had a hit, an RBI and scored a run in the Eagles’ 3-0 win over Brevard.

    Alexis McSwain, Cherryville: Hit a two-run homer.

    Ava Miller, Cherryville: Was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

    Chloee Stroupe, Cherryville: Was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

    Maddie Bowen, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs scored in an 11-4 win over Eastern Guilford.

    Kaitlyn Gust, East Lincoln: Had a hit and an RBI in a 4-2 loss to Ashe County.

    Tatum Martin, East Lincoln: Had a hit and scored a run.

    Kayla Johnson, Forestview: Had two hits, including a double, in a 10-0 loss to West Rowan.

    Maddie Huffman, Kings Mountain: Pitched a no-hitter, allowing no runs or hits and walked one, while striking out 15 in seven innings of work as part of an 8-0 win over Southern Guilford.

    Kayla McSwain, Kings Mountain: Was 3-for-4 with a home run, double, five RBIs and two total runs scored.

    Kali Weaver, Kings Mountain: Was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored.

    Girls soccer

    Cadence Setzer, Crest: Scored four goals in a 6-2 win over Stuart Cramer.

    Morgan Setzer, Crest: Had two goals.

    Sasha Harrelson, East Gaston: Had a goal and an assist in a 10-0 win over Cherryville.

    Reagan Luckadoo, East Gaston: Had five goals and an assist.

    Elizabeth Sanderson, East Gaston: Scored a goal.

    Maddie Somers, East Gaston: Had a goal and an assist.

    Lydia Walls, East Gaston: Scored two goals and assisted on two more.
