CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Lowcountry is in for a hot day on Wednesday nearing record-breaking heat.

Storm Team 2 says the forecast for Wednesday is 92 degrees and the record of 93 degrees was set in 1986. The normal high for this time of year is 82 degrees.

“When you take the last 30 years and average out the temperatures for today’s date that’s 82 degrees, we’re some 10 degrees above that in the forecast,” says Meteorologist Josh Marthers.

“Whenever you are within 2 or 3 degrees of the record, you’ve got a shot at getting there. I think we’ve got a shot at least tying it today if not flat-out breaking it,” Marthers added.

Storm Team 2 predicts less than 20% chance of rain, but isolated showers are still possible. However, the chances of rain will increase tomorrow.

According to Marthers, “Record highs during the day – in the mid-90s… Late in the day rain probabilities go up, and that will come in the form of some strong possibly severe thunderstorms tomorrow evening.”
