CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Severe weather in the middle of the country serves as a reminder that hurricane season is less than a month away.

How much daylight will Massachusetts have on the longest day of 2024?

If a wet summer last year is any indication, it’s a good time to prepare for potential storms and hurricanes this summer. Hurricane season for the Northeast starts in the beginning of June and goes through November. NOAA reported 20 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean last year, ranking the fourth most since 1950.

Lou Courteau with Rocky’s Ace Hardware suggests dusting off one item in particular before wet weather, “Obviously generators is a big one. Make sure you maintain it before the weather comes. Don’t wait to start it up when the bad weather comes… check the sparkplugs, make sure it’s got clean gas, check the oil.”

Courteau says other items to stock up on are flashlights, batteries, and gasoline for your generators. If you’re storing gasoline for long periods of time, pick up some stabilizer so it lasts longer.
