DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens about a scam that involves someone impersonating a sheriff’s office employee.

According to officials, a scammer using Deputy Lt. Capt. Duprey’s name is calling residents to falsely inform them about a missed a court date that requires bond payment over the phone.

Anyone who receives this call should hang up immediately.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office says it will never ask for payment in person, over the phone, text or internet for missed court dates or tickets.
