A historic plane made during World War II is making an appearance in the Lehigh Valley this week.

The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour will go from Thursday through Sunday at Hangar 10 at Lehigh Valley International Airport, according to a news release from the event.

The B-29 Doc is one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortresses made in Wichita during World War II and one of two remaining that can still fly. Docs Friends, Inc., is a nonprofit board managing it. Its mission is to honor those who sacrificed their freedom during the war, including those who designed, built and flew the B-29 during and after the war, according to the release.

“B-29 Doc provides a unique experience for people to climb inside one of only two remaining B-29 Superfortress bombers and learn about the technological marvel that helped deliver victory to the Allied Forces during World War II,” Josh Wells, B-29 Doc executive director, said in the release. “Our mission is to honor the legacies of the Greatest Generation and the stories of those who designed, built, flew and maintained these historic warbirds to protect freedom.”

The plane landed at LVIA on Monday. Guests will be able to tour the plane on the ground from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Flights will be held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ground and cockpit tours will also be held from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Ground and cockpit tours are $10 per person or $20 per family.

Flight experience tickets start at $600. Tickets may be purchased here, www.b29doc.com/rides .
