PAX, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Residents of the Fayette and Raleigh County areas made their way out to Pax Town Hall Gymnasium on Thursday for a “Meet the Candidates” event at which both conservative incumbents and prospective office holders discussed issues impacting Southern West Virginia.

Many well-known local political figures were in attendance for the event, with some appearing on behalf of their own respective campaigns, and others attending in a show of support for their friends and colleagues.

West Virginia State Senate candidate Brian Helton – who had a hand in organizing the event – was among those to take to the microphone and address the audience directly. Helton spoke of both troubling issues and exciting opportunities being faced by the state of West Virginia, declaring his intention, if elected, to leverage his business acumen and experience in the addressing of those issues and the seizing of opportunities for growth within the state.

Specifically, the State Senate candidate emphasized a need for representation for areas throughout Southern West Virginia such as Pax and noted a need for conservative leadership in office.

“We’re seeing these opportunities come across our state for manufacturing to all kinds of different opportunities for good long-term jobs. The unfortunate part is, right here in Southern West Virginia, we’re still on decline,” said Helton. “So, we’ve got to get into office conservative business leaders who know how to get things done, who are committed to growing our industries, and growing our opportunities for our area. Because it’s about time we had our seat at the table here in Southern West Virginia.”

House of Delegates member, Eric Brooks (R-45) spoke as well, addressing several issues, expressing support and overseeing the “Meet the Candidate” portion of the event, during which candidates were given a limited window of time to speak on their respective campaigns and values.

Raleigh County Sheriff, Jim Canaday participated as well, detailing how his own experience, background, and education inform his approach to his role as sheriff.

Other participating candidates included Raleigh County Circuit Judge candidate, Michael Froble, Raleigh County Magistrate candidate, Matthew Epling, Fayette County Assessor, Eddie Young, Fayette County Sheriff candidate, Chuck Miller, and more.
