Newfoundland Stops at Senior Living Community to ‘Demand Pets From All His Grandparents'

Everybody loves a big, fluffy dog who gets along with everyone. It really helps people who might be afraid of them to overcome their fears: once they see that the dog has no interest in hurting them, they tend to relax. If there's one friendly dog breed to help you overcome that fear, it's the Newfoundland!

Just take this guy, for example. On Friday, May 3rd, his mom finally exposed his favorite pastime. He likes to take a walk to the nearby senior living community and get pets from all of the residents. It's amazing:

When I eventually move into one of these, if I don't get visited by a dog like Chewy , I'm leaving. If there's not a dog, it's not worth going!

Chewy the Newfoundland (affectionately dubbed "Newfies") is a total star, both on TikTok and in his own neighborhood. He may have thousands of adoring fans on TikTok, but in his real life, his mom claims he's the friendliest pup you'll ever meet. He loves to be the center of attention and he'll play with anyone willing to give him the time of day!

In this video, Chewy doesn't receive any pets from any grandparents, which feels like a crime. However, that doesn't stop him from going there and lying down every time he gets near. That means that, at least once, a grandparent has indeed stopped to pet him. He does get joined by a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel near the end!

A Quick Guide to Politely Petting Dogs

Chewy is basically demanding that everyone in the world pets him, and if you find yourself with a super friendly dog like that, you're going to want to pet it. Typically, if they have a friendly dog and they know it, the dog's caretaker will probably have no problem with you petting their pup. I actually met a Golden Retriever mom once who said I had to pet her dog or he'd be upset! Best walk of my life.

However, even if the dog looks friendly, you still need to ask - unless you see each other every day on your morning walks. Then you'll probably earn permission to pet them whenever you see them. Shoutout to my Golden Retriever bestie!

Once you get the okay, you can either crouch or stay standing, but move slowly. Even if it's a dog you've met, they might be spooked by sudden movements. You can pet them for as long as they're comfortable, but if they start getting uncomfortable, it's time to let them go. Chewy would sit in that crosswalk forever if they let him!
