CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man has been charged after allegedly shooting twice at a victim for cutting him off while driving in Harrison County.

On May 3, troopers with the Harrison County detachment of the West Virginia State Police were informed of a situation that occurred on W.Va. Rt. 20 southbound, according to a criminal complaint.

Man charged with setting Harrison County Recycling Center on fire

The incident involved Ernest Leggett, 67, of Lumberport, and a person who exited the Harrison Power Station who Leggett “believed […] cut him off and was driving too slowly,” troopers said.

At that point, Leggett “became angered” and “then fired a semi-automatic handgun at least two times” between the area of Harrison Power Station and the Shinnston Dollar General while Leggett “extend[ed] his arm out of his vehicle,” according to the complaint.

When the victim went into the Dollar General parking lot, Leggett “follow[ed] the victim into the parking lot”; in a Mirandized interview, Leggett “admitted to firing a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun while angry over being cut off,” troopers said.

Leggett has been charged with two counts of wanton endangerment. He is being held in North Central Regional Jail.
