HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Runners raced through the rain on the final day of the annual Queen Track Classic held Sunday at Hermitage High School, with Olympic track star Queen Harrison Claye as host.

On Sunday, May 5, the Queen Track Classic ran its second and final day of track and field events at Hermitage High School, with athletes from the area competing for awards. The event also featured a live DJ, food trucks and a 360 photo booth.

Olympic hurdler Queen Harrison Claye returned to Henrico County to co-host the event before she gears up for the summer Olympic trials in Oregon in hopes of securing a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

One of the runners in the Queen Track Classic, Taryn Patrick, said she was excited to get the experience of meeting Claye and the rest of the Olympians who attended the track and field event.

Princess Comara also participated in the Queen Track Classic and told 8News about what it takes to run in these events.

“I think people just think it’s like track you’re just running, it’s nothing, but it’s physical and mental. It’s like you have to be prepared to run, not just think that you can run and win,” Comara said. “You have to be prepared like a month in advance before you run some crazy time.”
