A Rusk County man was arrested on Tuesday on multiple charges, including attempted homicide, by the Barron/Rusk County Emergency Response Team after a man was reportedly shot in the head in the town of Thornapple.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office reported that the Rusk County 911 Center received a call at around 10:30 p.m. regarding a man with a possible gun shot wound to the head at Marshfield Medical Center-Ladysmith.

Deputies responded and learned the victim was involved in a physical altercation at a residence in the town of Thornapple. Because of the seriousness of the crime and possible usage of a firearm, the Emergency Response Team was activated.

William Irvin II, 56, was taken into custody by the Emergency Response Team and is being held on a $20,000 cash bond in Rusk County Jail. On Thursday he was charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless injury, felon in possession of a firearm, substantial battery - intending bodily harm and disorderly conduct.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Lab continue to investigate.
