CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) is reminding fishers to enter any tags they may have collected during the annual West Virginia Gold Rush.

The West Virginia Gold Rush is a fishing competition held throughout the state. This year the DNR stocked 68 lakes and streams with 50,000 golden rainbow trout, 500 of which were tagged. If you caught one of these tagged fish, you would enter your tag number for a chance to receive a prize.

The DNR website states “West Virginia’s golden rainbow trout is prized by anglers young and old for its unmistakable, bright-yellow color. These fish were selectively and successfully bred by West Virginia Division of Natural Resources biologists over several years and introduced to the public in 1963 as part of West Virginia’s centennial celebration.”

The last day to enter your tag numbers is May 5 and can be done on the DRN website .
