The First Responders Dinner was held at the Bertie Senior Center on Thursday, April 25 in Windsor. The attendees enjoyed BBQ chicken cooked by Allen Castelloe and Lewis Hoggard for the Windsor/Bertie Chamber of Commerce.

The primary sponsor of the event was ECU Health Bertie Hospital, who also provided volunteers to serve the food for the event. Additional sponsors were Bertie County and the town of Windsor.

This event is held each year as a small token of appreciation to first responders in the county. Numerous fire departments from around the county were in attendance, Bertie County EMT employees, Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Windsor Police Department, N.C. Forest Service — Bertie County, ECU Health Bertie Hospital and others were present representing the first responders in the county.

Numerous plates were delivered to first responders actually working in the county and not able to attend.

Speakers at the event were Scott Jernigan, the President of the Windsor/Bertie Chamber board, Randy Walston, town of Windsor Police and Fire Commissioner, and Christie Dozier, manager of ECU Health Family Medicine in Windsor.

Windsor/Bertie Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lewis Hoggard was the master of ceremonies and Mixin’ Mike Walker provided the musical entertainment.

“We always enjoy this event as it is a chance to acknowledge the first responders in the county and let them know that we appreciate what they do for our citizens every day and night of the year,” Hoggard said.

The Bertie Senior Center provided an excellent space for the event and is appreciated for their help in allowing this dinner to take place Hoggard added.
