UPDATE: The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office has released more information concerning school lockdowns that occurred in the area.

On May 3, 2024, around 9 AM, Union Parish High School and Union Parish Junior High School were placed on lockdown due to a possible threat involving a student and a firearm. UPSO Resource Deputies acted immediately and initiated the lockdown.

According to authorities, there was a large law enforcement presence on the scene while the investigation was conducted. No firearms were found on campus and the investigation is ongoing with one juvenile arrest at this time.

Numerous social media posts were made about gunshots being fired on campus and law enforcement injured but these were completely false statements. The school lockdown has been lifted and school will continue as routine.
