COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — High pressure ridge that has been keeping us dry and warm will finally start to weaken as we are wrapping up the week and heading into the weekend. Already seeing the weakening happen as showers and storms are moving into parts of Alabama and Georgia.

Overnight, we will stay cloudy with showers likely to develop some time during the overnight and into the early morning hours just before daybreak on Saturday. Saturday starts off cloudy; however, the showers do make a quick exit allowing afternoon highs to reach the mid to upper 80s. A few afternoon pop-up thunderstorms will be likely late into the evening as the energy lifts out.

For the remainder of the weekend, transitioning more into a pseudo-zonal weather pattern, which means the movement of air is west to east in the upper air pattern. Stray showers and storms will be possible throughout this period into the start of the week with air mass thunderstorms aided by daytime heating.

Brief lull in the rain chances by the midweek as the ridge of high pressure builds back from the south. With that, temperatures will be allowed to warm back into the lower 90s by Wednesday. Potentially becoming the warmest day of the season so far.

End of next week, we are watching for another good chance of showers and/or thunderstorms as another shortwave slides into the southeast. Any rainfall at this point would be beneficial with May typically our second driest month of the year.
