PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are investigating the death of 65-year-old inmate Douglas Lewis.

According to detectives, Lewis was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on April 19, 2024, for Providing a False Name to Law Enforcement and an Arrest Warrant for Failure to Appear on a petit theft charge. At approximately 8:10 a.m. on May 2, 2024, Lewis was found unresponsive in his housing area.

Detention and medical staff performed life-saving measures, and he was transported to a local hospital. On May 3, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Lewis was pronounced deceased.

Detectives say Lewis had a pre-existing medical condition and was in the process of discussing hospice options with medical staff. At this point in the investigation, detectives have found no evidence that Lewis was involved in any physical altercations or sustained any injuries while incarcerated at the jail.

Next of kin has been notified.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death.

Pinellas county morgue, your chances of getting out of there alive are really slim. The medical staff is all on certification non licensed and senile. If you think they care, you’re sadly mistaken.
