    Crews respond to five-alarm fire in Monroe County

    COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Firefighters from two counties are responding to a fire at a used tire shop in Monroe County.

    Officials tell 28/22 News that crews were called to a tire fire at A&C New and Used Tires in the 700 block of Memorial Boulevard (Route 611) at 9:50 a.m.

    Firefighters on the scene have reported that the entirety of the building is on fire in addition to the tires.

    As of 11:00 a.m., the Monroe County Communications Center has alerted the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Association that the fire is equivalent to a five-alarm fire.

    Officials said most of Monroe County has been called to the scene to bring water with a few units from Lackawanna County called in to assist.

    The Monroe County Communications Center said firefighters have been warned to evacuate the building.

    PPL is reporting about 776 customers in the area have lost power, including traffic lights.

    Memorial Boulevard has been closed in the surrounding area as crews battle the fire.
