DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — What were you doing on weekends during your senior year of high school? A student in Jefferson County is spending his a little differently by organizing a fishing tournament for a good cause.

Adam Grace, a senior at Jefferson County High School, has organized a ‘Fishing for Freedom’ tournament to raise money money for veterans and their families through the Fisher House Foundation.

The tournament take place on Saturday, May 4 at the Dandridge Boat Dock on Douglas Lake at 157 Public Drive. It will begin at first light and continue through 3 p.m.

Grace is hosting the competition through his service learning class, which teaches students to give back to their community in their own way. As an avid angler himself, he told WATE that it was a great way to give back to those who have sacrificed so much.

“Just being able to come here, come to school and even be in this class, We wouldn’t even be able to do that without the sacrifices that so many people have done for us,” Grace said. “I felt that giving back to the veterans is the least I could do.”

Registration for the tournament is $60 per boat and can be completed at the boat ramp on the morning of the tournament. Grace said he aims to raise over $1,000.
