    17-year-old certified as adult, charged with 53 crimes

    ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A juvenile accused of a year-long crime spree will stand trial as an adult.

    The St. Louis County Family Court certified Juanell Carter, 17, as an adult on Thursday. He faces 53 criminal charges for allegedly breaking into dozens of cars across the region and stealing purses, credit cards, firearms, and motor vehicles.

    According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the crimes occurred between June 27, 2022, and June 19, 2023.

    Police claim Carter was arrested in a stolen car, which contained stolen property from prior thefts. One of the stolen firearms was seen on Carter’s Instagram’s page, where it was being sold for $250. Police also allege Carter’s fingerprint was located on one of the vehicles he broke into.

    The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Carter with 31 counts of first-degree property damage – damage to a motor vehicle with intent to steal, seven counts of stealing a motor vehicle, five counts of stealing a firearm, two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of stealing – $75 or more, and seven counts of stealing – all other property. Carter is being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
