MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD) – Santee Cooper announced they will be conducting tests for its 15 warning sirens for the Santee Dam flood plain in Berkeley, Clarendon, and Williamsburg.

According to Santee Cooper, they will set off each siren in test mode. The testing includes a one-minute siren followed by a pre-recorded message and live announcement concluding the exercise.

Siren testing is scheduled for Monday, May 13 at 10 a.m. and lasts a few minutes.

“Employees will be collecting information on the sirens’ wail time and the message clarity, completeness and volume for both the prerecorded and live announcements,” says Santee Cooper’s press release.

Santee Cooper typically conducts siren testing twice a year to check that its emergency system is functioning correctly, officials say.
