    Hackensack Meridian Health and Choose New Jersey on Wednesday launched an effort aimed at searching for promising Irish companies to partner with.

    According to the organizations, HMH Emerge is a new, exclusive pitch competition for Ireland-based health startups. The goal is to provide these Irish health care innovators the opportunity to bring their ideas to fruition through piloting, partnering, mentorship and/or investment.

    The process is targeted at tailoring commercialization opportunities in the U.S. health care market. It includes an initial two-minute, high-level video pitch. The selection of 10 startups follows. The program culminates with the top three selected startups presenting to the HMH Bear's Den board. That group includes HMH executives, board members, and external investors.

    Some program particulars and key dates:

    • Open to all groups from Ireland

    • Decided on a case-by-case basis

    • Non-disclosure agreements assure intellectual property (IP) protection during program

    • Application deadline May 15;

    HMH Chief Innovation Officer Sandra Power-Elliott leads the network’s Office of Innovation and Commercialization. She said this is a fantastic opportunity to leverage such promising innovation from the health care system's colleagues across the Atlantic.

    “In trade, these companies can get invaluable footholds in the American market,” said Powell-Elliott. “It’s a winning idea in both directions.”

    “We have fantastic relationships with our colleagues in Ireland,” said Bill Noonan, chief business development officer, Choose NJ. “It’s such a vibrant place for innovation and enterprise, and we are glad to help catalyze such potential for everyone’s benefit.”
