VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County School Corporation is getting the word out about a program to help keep students fed this summer.

    It’s called Indiana Sun Bucks.

Families in need will get $120 loaded onto an EBT card for each eligible child. Those cards will then be mailed to families homes so they can be used to buy groceries during the summer.

The school district says students who are on the free and reduced lunch programs are already enrolled to receive “sun bucks.”

“Vigo County’s running in the 65 to 67% free and reduced, so we’ve got a number of our families and students that are on the program,” VCSC Food Service Director Tom Lentes said. “So I think it’s going to be very beneficial for our community to help kids over the summer cover those needs of being hungry.”

In addition, Vigo County schools will also serve free meals at several locations over the summer.

The district is finalizing those locations and will release those details in the future. As for the Sun Bucks program, you can learn more about eligibility online here .
