    ALEXANDRIA — Cali Hess walked it off with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning, and Alexandria beat Central-Clay 12-2 in Tuesday’s Class 5A, Area 10 final at Alexandria.

    The Valley Cubs (29-12-1) and Central-Clay advanced to next week’s East Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park. Class 5A teams open play May 7 at 10:45 a.m.

    Hess, Alexandria’s shortstop, younger sister to senior first baseman Christian Hess and head coach Brian Hess’ daughter, tied Allyssa Hunt with a team-high four RBIs.

    Hunt went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, two runs and four RBIs.

    Charlee Parris tripled with an RBI, and Brenlee Sparks had a double and an RBI. Kaden Pritchett was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

    Pressley Slaton got the win, allowing three hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts in five innings.

    Class 4A, Area 8

    HANDLEY SWEEPS: Handley handled business at home, sweeping Munford 15-0 and 15-0 for the area title. Both teams advanced to the Central Regional at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park.

    Class 4A teams open regional play May 6 at 9 a.m.

    Handley (23-7) got a three-inning three-hitter with two strikeouts from Mariana Whaley in Tuesday’s first game with Munford.

    Raquel Joiner hit a solo home run, an Brynnley Lane was 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Ella Hopper was 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs and three RBIs, and Ava Hill was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

    Tayi Goss was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

    In the finals, Hill pitched two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and homered twice while going 3-for-3 with three runs and five RBIs.

    Joiner hit her second homer of the day while going 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, and Kia Brown went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

    Whaley was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Lane had two RBIs, and Hopper had a single and RBI.

    Munford (24-11-1) clinched its regional berth with two victories over Talladega, 13-0 and 16-1.

    Emma Gaither allowed three hits with nine strikeouts in four innings in the first game with Talladega.

    Madison Arnold allowed a hit with a strikeout in one inning of relief and went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

    Marlie Hall and Maddie Miller each had a double and RBI in pinch-hitting appearances. Amia Elston had a pinch-hit single and RBI.

    Tayla Marlow had a single and RBI, and Bayleigh Durham was 2-for-2 with two runs.

    In the second game with Talladega, Brooklyn Pressley pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in four innings and homered while going 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

    Jenna Gaither had two triples, two runs and two RBIs, and Emma Gaither was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

    Raleigh Dew was 2-for-2 with a double, a run and three RBIs, and Ashlyn Bishop was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs.

    Class 1A, Area 11

    SPRING GARDEN SWEEPS: The Panthers (24-9) swept to the area title at home, beating Cedar Bluff 6-2 and 5-2.

    Both teams advanced to next week’s East Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park. Class 1A teams begin play May 7 at 9 a.m.

    Olivia Law hit a solo home run while going 2-for-2 in the first game with Cedar Bluff. Helena Ingram was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Lillian McCain doubled with two RBIs.

    Addie Word had a single and RBI. Avery Steward went 2-for-4 with a run.

    Ingram had a single, a run and an RBI in the second game. Maggie Jarrett tripled and scored a run, and McCain hit a double.

    Steward pitched a three-hitter with one earned run and seven strikeouts.
