HERMITAGE, Pa. (WKBN) — On Wednesday morning, the United Way of Mercer County held its annual “Breakfast of Champions” at the Buhl Park Casino.

The event celebrates those in the community who give their time, talent and resources to make the Shenango Valley and Mercer County a better place to live, work and play.

Barry Zekelman was one of two honored. He is the CEO of Zekelman Industries, which owns Wheatland Tube and Sharon Tube.

“It’s important to make sure you have the facilities for young families to want to be here… and old, and families to retire here,” said Zakelman. “But new people coming in, new generations, and people who want to stay here and build families, build careers and all of those things, surrounded by us.”

Also honored at the Community of Champions breakfast was Fred Heiges, a long-time community volunteer.
