KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of a retired K9 Wednesday morning.

K9 “Jury” was donated to the sheriff’s office in 2011 by the Anson County Sheriff’s Department. “Jury” was paired with handler Kenneth Black from 2011-2014 before moving to Gary Turner in 2014, where she served for two years. In 2016, she was with handler Sgt. Jothan Nesselrotte.

Two years later, in 2018, she went to Steven Key. Finally, her last two years in service were with Det. John Harper. “Jury” retired in 2023 and went to live with her previous handler, Sgt. Nesselrotte.

“Jury” was often called to help outside agencies, assisting in finding missing children, dementia patients and various suspects. She specialized in tracking and trailing.
