ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man previously convicted of a felony was charged for possessing multiple firearms after allegedly firing a pistol at cats in Randolph County.

On April 26, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department received a call of shots being fired on Pritt Lane near the East Dailey area, according to a criminal complaint.

    Seth Dewitt

When deputies arrived, they made contact with Seth Dewitt, 33, of Beverly, who claimed that “nobody had discharged a firearm at his residence,” but the person who called in the shot fired told deputies they heard gunshots and saw a man who they identified as Dewitt “shooting a small pistol,” the complaint said.

Man charged with felony for being married to 2 women at once, deputies say

Deputies said that when they returned to where they originally spoke with Dewitt, they “observed [him] climbing into the attic on a ladder through the front door.” Dewitt admitted that “he was attempting to conceal the firearms” due to him being a convicted felon, deputies said.

Deputies retrieved four pistols, four rifles and one shotgun from the attic and determined that Dewitt “discharge[d] a Berretta pistol towards the direction of cats in his yard to scare them off,” according to the complaint.

Dewitt has been charged with nine counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $40,000 bond.
