Last month, Isiah Thomas advocated for Stephon Marbury to make the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Knowing his groundbreaking impact on basketball in China , Zeke believes that 'Starbury's' induction case must be strongly considered.

Besides the Detroit Pistons legend, Carmelo Anthony also echoed his support for Marbury. As the former star guard appeared as his guest in the latest episode of the "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast, Melo approved the idea of Stephon entering the basketball pantheon in Springfield.

"Isiah Thomas recently made a statement that he feels like you deserve to be in the Hall of Fame; I agree," Melo said . " I think we all know what you've done for the game here. I think you don't enough credit for what you've done for the game globally, connecting those dots and building those bridges."

    A cultural icon in China

Starbury became the country's cultural icon in his nine years of play in China. No other player matched his popularity level while playing in the Chinese Basketball Association.

He even saw himself having a statue, postgame stamp, and a 300-square-foot museum dedicated to his greatness upon helping the Beijing Ducks win three CBA titles. Stephon's unwavering leadership to the Ducks' success convinced Beijing to give him honorary citizenship and a Chinese permanent residence card.

Even if he retired from the game six years ago, Stephon is still relevant amongst Chinese sports fans. He remains stapled in the country's basketball scenes after recently concluding his four-year coaching stint for Beijing Royal Fighters.

"You deserve to be in the Hall of Fame," Melo continued. "Your impact in the game of basketball, culturally from a young kid all the way up to right now, that body of work globally, should be a no-brainer. Why Stephon Marbury isn't in the Hall of Fame? I'm advocating for you, we are all advocating for you."

    Stephon's Hall of Fame case

According to Basketball Reference, Marbury holds a 0.0699% probability of making it to the Hall of Fame. While that is considerably low, his chances are better than those of Wayne Embry, Gus Johnson, and Bill Walton, who already received basketball immortality years ago.

While Marbury's accolades have been somewhat underwhelming—he was a two-time All-Star and a two-time All-NBA member in his 13-year NBA run—the iconic guard still has a chance of being enshrined, especially if basketball legends continue to make public cases for it.
