UPDATE: As of Wednesday, May 1, the boil water notice for Kiawana Road has been lifted.

SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) – The Smyth County Water and Sewer Department issued a boil water notice for some customers Monday.

According to the department, the county saw a lack of water after a “major broken water main on Kiawana Road.”

As a result, a boil water notice has been issued for the area until further notice. Customers of the department should bring their water to a rolling boil for one minute before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or food preparation.

The boil water notice only affects the Kiawana area.

Boiling water is not necessary for washing clothes, bathing or washing dishes.
