CHEAT LAKE, W.Va. (WBOY) — A food pantry that has been serving Monongalia County for more than 100 years is moving locations to the other side of the county.

Scott’s Run Settlement House (SRSH) announced in a press release that its home church in Osage is closing, however it will remain open in its current location for one day a week for those who live in the western part of Monongalia County. The new location will be at the former Cheat Lake United Methodist Church building 750 Fairchance Rd.

In the release, SRSH Executive Director Michael Richard said that the new building is more modern, has better parking and is on the current bus line.

“This move is essential to continuing our mission of ‘being a place to turn to’ for the people of Monongalia County. We are very excited to provide a new location that is more accessible and better suited for our next 100 years,” Richard said in the release.

The food pantry will close starting May 25 for the move and services are expected to resume on June 10.

“Resources will be posted and available for other area agencies available for urgent needs at that time. Current clients will be scheduled for immediately before or after the move to minimize the risk of anyone missing out on regular services,” the release said.

Although the new location is an approximately 25-minute drive from the current SRSH base, Assistant Director Devon McDaniel said that the pantry will continue to make sure that the western part of Monongalia County can access its services.

“Once a week, we will offer regularly scheduled pantry services at the original Osage location, exclusively for residents in the western side of the county, to ensure that they continue receiving the services they need. Additionally, we will continue to bring fresh produce for our Free Market at least twice a week to ensure that people in the Osage area can continue to access healthy and fresh food,” McDaniel said in a release.

The release also said that the Mountain Line Transit Authority will be able to extend its Eastern Circular line from the Mon-Fayette Industrial Park stop to the SRSH Fairchance Road location, upon request.

More information about the move and a form to ask questions and give feedback about the move is available on the Scott’s Run Settlement House website .
