Healthy WashCo stakeholder meeting May 15

SHELL LAKE — The Washburn County Health and Human Services’ Prevention Programming Unit holds monthly coalition meetings that focus on mental health promotion and substance misuse. The Prevention Team will be hosting public trainings on a quarterly basis this year. The first training will be on Wednesday, May 15, at 3 p.m. in the Washburn County Services building board room. Elise Anderson from Washburn County Public Health will be facilitating a QPR training. QPR, or Question, Persuade, Refer, is a simple three-step process aimed at preventing suicide. The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training.

The signs of crisis are all around us. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know. Unfortunately, mental health challenges and suicide have been increasing across the age spectrum. The Prevention Unit or Healthy WashCo, as we are known publicly, work diligently to provide programs that encourage a healthy lifestyle, increase protective factors and create social connection. These efforts will help in realizing a happier, healthier Washburn County. Join us on May 15 for the QPR training; complimentary refreshments will be provided.

The Prevention Programming Unit encourages you to visit healthywashco.org to learn more about prevention programs, The Oak youth center and upcoming events.
