In late 2023, Wright County Public Health began a new program aimed at connecting healthcare professionals and youth experiencing asthma or related symptoms.

Between home visits, school engagement, and clinic partnerships, the Asthma Program offers ways to reduce asthma triggers and prevent symptoms. This is done by a registered nurse, who offers tailored education, reviews individual asthma action plans, assesses homes to identify potential triggers, and answers questions.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) and the Minnesota Department of Health. The registered nurses who facilitate this program are certified through the Asthma Educator Institute by the American Lung Association; a training made possible through scholarships from the Minnesota Department of Health.

SHIP, a community-driven grant initiative overseen by Wright County Public Health and supported by the Minnesota Department of Health, champions wellness programs like the Asthma Program to share health insights and prevent symptoms. SHIP works with many community partners on well-being, healthy eating, active living, and tobacco cessation efforts.

Those interested in partnering with SHIP can contact Wright County Public Health or visit the SHIP webpage shorturl.at/CLRT1
