The Scottish woman accused of being the " real-life Martha " from the critically-acclaimed Netflix smash, Baby Reindeer , has hit out at fans of the show, who have hunted her down on social media.

The woman has claimed she is fearing for her life after trolls uncovered her identity online, and she claimed that the alleged death threats have continued, following her speaking out in a chat with the Daily Record .

Baby Reindeer, which was created by and stars Richard Gadd, tells the comedian's real-life ordeal of being stalked over a four-and-a-half-year period by "Martha".

But the "real-life Martha" has insisted "I'm the victim here," and she has a message for those trolling her online, who she brands "stalkers".

She fumed: "These people need to get a life. They need to do their housework, go and get a degree, get a job." She then went on to explain how the trolling has affected her daily life.

She claimed: "Gadd has told people not to speculate but his fans seem to be picking on anyone. It has destroyed my entire week. I’ve had to cancel a number of meetings.

"I’ve had to cancel a hospital operation and there have been domestic things I have tried to get done but this takes up so much of my time."

34-year-old Gadd had previously taken to Instagram, imploring Baby Reindeer fans to not 'play detective' and try to uncover the real-life identities of the characters in the seven-part series.

He shared how investigations by viewers had left people he's "loved, have worked with and admired getting unfairly caught up in speculation".

Addressing his followers, he said: "Please don't speculate on who any of the real-life people could be. That's not the point of our show. Lots of love, Richard."

Actress Jessica Gunning, who plays Martha in the program, has also asked viewers to not try and track down who the "real-life Martha' is.

She said: "I didn’t know that was happening. I would urge people not to be doing that. I think if that is happening, I think it’s a real, real shame because it shows that they haven’t watched the show properly.

"That’s not the point of it in any way. Netflix and Richard went to extreme lengths to try and make sure that the identities were kept private for a reason."
