    Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District board members declined to change the county’sdrought status Friday, leaving it at stage 2.

    That mandates a 15 percent reduction in groundwater use.

    But the board thinks things might get better soon.

    General Manager Mithell Sodek told the board the outlook for rain is good.

    “There is an optimistic forecast, and we have received some good rain lately,” he said.

    The Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District covers Burnet County and is charged with conserving and augmenting groundwater supplies.

    It has the authority to approve certain wells in the county. It's five-mem ber board of directors is elected by Burnet County voters and each member serves a term of four years.
