(WKBN) – A $2.1 million road resurfacing project begins next week in Mercer County.

The project aims to give drivers a smoother ride along 7 miles of Route 258 in Springfield, Findlay and East Lackawannock townships, and in the Mercer Borough.

The project will include paving the roadway from the intersection with Route 208 near the Grove City Outlet Mall to the intersection with Hope Mill Road (Route 2011) in Mercer Borough.

Work will also include roadway base layer repairs, and updates to drainage, guide rail, median traffic delineators, tree trimming and pavement markings.

Construction is expected to begin Monday, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed in late July 2024, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Drivers may encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions and anticipate travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is Shields Asphalt Paving, Inc. of Valencia, Pa., and the project will be paid entirely with state funds, according to the PennDOT.

This year PennDOT’s Northwest Region expects to do work on more than 100 projects. To see a full listing of all the anticipated work, check out the 2024 Construction Book located under the Resources tab online at www.penndot.pa.gov/District1 .
