BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A pick-up truck crashed into a warehouse building of the Hoosier Hills Food Bank Sunday afternoon, according to officials with the organization.

Officials said that a pick-up truck drove off of southbound I-69, went down a hill and crashed into the Hoosier Hills Food Bank’s Dan Taylor Annex warehouse building, located on West Industrial Park Drive.

“It appears that the driver passed out at the wheel but that there were no serious injuries to the driver or passenger,” a news release from the food bank said. “There’s a lot of damage but no one was hurt and we’re hopeful that insurance will cover most expenses and losses eventually.”

Officials from the food bank said they are still assessing the losses, which may include supplies as well as many of the 60,000 post cards they prepared for next month’s food drive.

Ramp metering to start on 465 next month

“We are very grateful to the Monroe Fire Protection District and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department personnel who responded quickly to the scene and helped us get everything under control,” HHFB CEO Julio Alonso said in the release.

The bank is working with a construction company, as well as an insurance company to help assess the amount of damage and “how to best begin repairs after the building is temporarily sealed.”
