    Man sentenced after pleading guilty but mentally ill for killing mom

    HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – According to Indiana court records, a man was sentenced to 45 years for pleading guilty but mentally ill for killing his mother .

    Officials say the court sentenced David O. Crowe Jr. on murder to 45 years at the Indiana Department of Correction. Officials note that after the Defendant has served 23 years, he may petition the Court to request modification of his sentence and the court shall grant Crowe a hearing on the matter, but the state of Indiana reserves the right to object to said modification request at the hearing.

    Court documents note the guilty but mentally ill designation affords him the opportunity to receive necessary psychiatric treatment while the sentence is being served in a manner dictated by a professional.

    The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office said on October 7, 2021 that an arrest was made after a woman’s body was found on Lyles Station Road , north of State Road 64.

    According to court documents, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home after family members of 72-year-old Viola Clardy said they had been unable to contact her for several days. According to the documents, no one had been able to contact Clardy since the night of October 3. Law enforcement officers say that Clardy’s son David O. Crowe Jr., 47, admitted to stabbing her on the morning of October 4, 2021.
