One dead, injuries reported following West Virginia crash

WOOD COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One person is dead and injuries have been reported following a multi-vehicle crash in West Virginia.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, April 14, 2024, at 2:47 PM, a complaint was received by Wood County 911 of a three-vehicle collision that occurred at mile marker 6, eastbound on Robert C. Byrd Highway.

First responders responded to the area and observed the vehicles involved to be

one 2022 Cadillac SUV operated by Ishmael Smith, 84, of Little Hocking, Ohio.

A 2016 Mercedes sedan operated by Cindy R. Lowden, 57, of Washington, WV 26181, and a 2018 semi driven by Maato D. Ssebbowa, age 40, of Fishers, IN.

It was determined that the operator of the 2022 Cadillac SUV had entered the eastbound lanes of Robert C. Byrd from Division Street, traveling westbound.

The 2022 Cadillac SUV then collided head-on with the 2016 Mercedes sedan, which was then also rear-ended by the 2018 semi.

The operator of the 2022 Cadillac SUV Ishmael Smith was found deceased on scene.

The operator of the 2016 Mercedes sedan Cindy R. Lowden was immediately transported to Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the 2018 semi Maato D. Ssebbowa was found on scene with no injuries.
