    How to celebrate Earth Day in Utah

    Earth Day is Monday, but there are plenty of chances to get outside this weekend and enjoy or help our colorful li'l rock.


    Millcreek Common : Pollinator Palooza brings butterfly encounters, local honey and native plants to the town square.

    • When: Friday-Sunday, 11am-9pm, with a special Earth Day celebration 2pm-6pm Saturday
    • Cost: $5 for butterfly activities; celebration is free

    Scion Cider : A plant swap and pop-up shop gives you a chance to place your unwanted potted and basket plants in a happy home — or pick up cuttings and other lil' babies.

    • When: Noon-4pm Saturday
    • Where: 916 S. Jefferson St.

    National Park Week : Enjoy free entry to all NPS sites Saturday to kick off a week of celebrations of national parks. Be sure to take part in the daily adventure themes!

    • Where: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Cedar Breaks, Dinosaur, Glen Canyon, Golden Spike, Hovenweep, Natural Bridges, Rainbow Bridge, Timpanogos Cave and Zion.
    • Zoom in: If you're heading to Zion, check out Springdale's big Earth Day party.

    Bonsai! : Admire the most elaborate mini-trees scissors can create.

    • When: 9am-7:30pm Saturday and 9am-3pm Sunday
    • Where: Red Butte Garden
    • Cost: $16 general admission with discounts for kids, seniors and other groups

    Ogden Nature Center: The Earth Day fair includes a water-wise plants sale, live entertainment, crafts, food trucks and other fun.

    • When: 11am-4pm Saturday
    • Cost: $5, with discounts for members and kids

    Earth Day 10K : Pound the ground and get some fresh air.

    • When: 10am Saturday
    • Where: Holt Farm, South Jordan
    • Cost : Varies by race

    Heron viewing : See the giant birds during their family time.

    • When: 11am-2pm Saturday
    • Where: Eccles Wildlife Education Center, Farmington
    • Admission: Free

    Keep going outside: Salt Lake City's rangers offer events each week, with duck-feeding advice Sunday, iNaturalist quests next week and wildflower walks to come.
