Meet the Candidate: Harvey “Eddie” Young for Fayette County Assessor

My name is Harvey E. Young. My friends call me Eddie. I started working in the Assessor’s office in July of 1989. I have 35 years experience at this job. I was hired as an appraiser. I was promoted to Reappraisal Supervisor and then to Chief Deputy. I served as Chief Deputy for ten years before becoming Assessor. I know this job forward and backwards. I have been appointed by two different Governors to the Property Valuation Committee. I have served in that capacity for twelve years. I know every aspect of this job.

I ran for re-election this year because I feel like that I have some unfinished business to take care of before I retire. We are on a new statewide computer system that does not fully work as it should. I need to hire an appraiser and get them trained. We are getting a new flyover for our GIS mapping system done. I need to see that implemented. There are several jobs that I do each year, and I need to train someone to take over these jobs.

My opponent has three months experience in this office. Those three months were thirteen years ago. He did not stay long enough to get fully trained. My experience is unmatched. I have trained other Counties how to do some of this work. I have advised the State Tax Department several times.

I will work hard to see that our properties in Fayette County are valued fairly and equitably. That is what this job entails. My door is always open. I will always be honest with you. I may not be able to say yes all of the time, but I will be able to explain why.

I do not consider myself as a politician. I am a regular Joe that happens to be in an elected job. I appreciate your support in the past and ask for your support one more time.
