Hand Sanitizer Sold In Minnesota Contains 'Potentially Deadly' Ingredient

Aruba Aloe Balm N.V voluntarily recalled "40 lots of Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel Alcohol 80% and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel ," due to the presence of methanol. The United Stated Food & Drug Administration released the following risk statement warning consumers of the dangerous side effects that can occur as a result of methanol exposure.

"Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache blurred vision, coma, seizures, permanent blindness, permanent damage to the central nervous system, or death. Although all persons using these products on their hands are at risk, young children who accidentally ingest these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute are most at risk for methanol poisoning."

The aforementioned products were sold online to customers across the U.S. including Minnesota . Recalled lot numbers of the Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer GEL include: 25344, 25828, 26057, 26471, 26754, 26821, 27518, 28392, 24759, 25160, 25580, 26195, 27005, 27927, and 28176.

Recalled lot numbers of the Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel include: 25253, 25976, 26150, 26473, 26553, 26696, 27318, 27481, 27660, 27839, 28121, 28152, 28281, 28355, 28761, 29088, 29510, 29558, 29728, 30086, 30339, and 30563.

Recalled Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer GEL and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel products were distributed between May 1, 2021, and October 27th, 2023. As of April 5th, 2024, no illnesses related to the recalled products had been reported.
