Escambia County EMA Director David Adams has announced our area may be in line for potentially severe weather Wednesday.

In light of the expected severe weather, officials with the Escambia County School System will be releasing students at 11:30 a.m. to avoid any danger in traveling home for the day.

Although the severe weather risk remains in the “Enhanced” coverage for most of Escambia County, the “Moderate” risk area has shifted eastward, inching  closer to our area.

Adams said the main threats will be high winds, possible tornadoes, and hail.

According to information provided by Adams, the window of greatest concern for the Brewton area has been bumped up to be between 2 and 10 p.m. with the area being in an “enhanced” risk area. Winds between 30 to 35 mph are possible with higher gusts possible. All weather modes are possible including 80 mph gusts, tornadoes and quarter-sized hail. Additional weather concerns include the potential for flooding into Wednesday night.

With rain amounts expected in the 2-4-inch range for the area, flash flooding is possible with minor river flooding as well.

Adams urges area residents to be prepared and have a way to receive warnings.
